An automatic garage door installation is a garage door that can be opened or closed via an electric motor, avoiding heavy lifting. Automatic garage doors open and close with a keypad, button, or your phone. Automatic garage door installation is usually an aspect of a home automation system, linking up electronic systems like climate control & lighting in homes.

Smartphone-operated automated garage doors can be programmed to open when the homeowner nears, shutting the door after going inside. Yet, they are not fit for homes on hillsides or steep inclines. Inclines cause the machine to stop over a set threshold.

What Are The Different Automatic Garage Door Installations

Automatic Garage Doors are standard in many cities within the U.S. with the following types:

  • Jackshaft installation is a standard garage door. An electric motor is installed between the tracks that lift and lower the garage door. There are usually some supports for a new motor to be placed on, avoiding damage to the door. Automatic Garage Door installations can often be used with any standard design of wooden or metal doors. The critical benefit of this kind of automatic garage door installation is that you get all the advantages without altering your exterior.

  • Whole Track Conversion systems come in two types: complete replacement and retrofit kits (sold separately). Complete replacement systems replace your entire track system, while retrofit kits just replace the interior section.

  • Whip Rod Installation is when a rod mechanism replaces your current garage door tracks. It fits on the top of the garage door where it rotates, best known as an arm. Due to local building codes, these Automatic Garage Door installation classes might not be obtainable in some locations.
